President Donald Trump has launched a new offensive in his trade war with Canada, aiming this time at a Canadian airplane manufacturer.
The president targeted Bombardier on Truth Social Monday, claiming the company would be banned from selling their products in the United States.
“NO MORE SELLING,” Trump declared. “Their products aren’t good enough! Over 50% of their revenue comes from the United States — They live off American Buyers, American Companies, American Airports, and American Service — All while Canada blocks our GREAT American Banks, and Companies, throughout the U.S.A. They even blocked Gulfstream Aerospace from doing business in Canada — Completely unjust and unfair! That Era is OVER!”
Trump then delivered a slew of vague demands.
“If they want our Market, they must build here, and stop treating America like a ‘piggybank.’ BUY AMERICAN. FLY ON AMERICAN AIRLINERS. ENJOY AMERICAN LIQUOR AND BEVERAGES. SAIL ON LAKE AMERICA. AMERICA FIRST!”
According to Reuters, this isn’t the first time Trump has lashed out at Bombardier.
“In January, Trump said the U.S. was decertifying Bombardier Global Express business jets and threatened 50% import tariffs on all aircraft made in Canada until the country’s regulator certified a number of planes produced by U.S. rival Gulfstream,” Reuters reported.
The news outlet also noted nothing came of the threat.
