Conservative analyst torches Trump’s plan to save the GOP in midterms: ‘Stupid idea’

President Donald Trump’s plan to rescue struggling Republican candidates by promising to hit the campaign trail for them could end up making their problems even worse, a pair of political analysts warned.

“Break Points” hosts Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti sounded the alarm Thursday over what they described as a “nightmare scenario” looming for Republicans ahead of the midterm elections.

“That just makes it even worse,” Ball, a former Democratic congressional candidate, said of Trump’s promise to stump for the GOP.

Enjeti, a conservative commentator and journalist, noted that Republicans in some of the country’s most competitive races face a “major fundraising problem” and are counting on the MAGA leader’s super PAC, MAGA Inc., to save them.

“All of these candidates are not banking on the traditional financial system to come and save their a–,” Enjeti said. “These candidates are all waiting for Trump to come in and to save them in the midterms, which I would have told you — that’s a stupid idea.”

Trump’s MAGA Inc. has roughly $1 billion at its disposal, according to Enjeti. But instead of using that money to promote individual candidates, Enjeti said Trump is focusing advertising on “how awesome he is.”

Enjeti argued that the president’s obsession with the elections comes down to one concern.

“What he cares about in the midterms is he doesn’t want to be embarrassed,” he concluded. “And ironically, he’s actually creating the exact conditions for him being embarrassed.”
