Former child star Raquel Lee Bolleau has filed a civil negligence lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company, alleging that she was sexually assaulted while working on 2001 Disney Channel Original Movie “The Poof Point” when she was 14 years old.
The Friday suit claimed that an “on-set, adult, middle-aged, male employee of Disney who was involved in the filming of the movie repeatedly raped, sexually assaulted, sexually abused and sexually harassed” the young actress “for weeks.”
He also allegedly supplied her with alcohol, leaving Bolleau “exhausted, often intoxicated, hungover or vomiting on set.” The then-teen was allegedly told by both Disney and the film’s director Neal Israel to “bond with, get close to and trust” this person, per the legal documents.
“Disney authorized sexual harassment on set, permitting sexualized jokes, commentary, fondling and excessive touching,” the lawsuit read. “Mr. Doe regularly made sexually explicit jokes and commentary on the set of a children’s movie and around children. No one from Disney even attempted to curb Mr. Doe’s inappropriate and sexualized commentary.”
Along with “The Poof Point” opposite Tahj Mowry, Bolleau was known for voicing Nubia on “The Proud Family” (and its recently concluded “Louder and Prouder” sequel series), as well as Season 1 of “The Amanda Show” on Nickelodeon. In 2024, she took part in the explosive docuseries “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,” where she went into detail on the troubled experience she had on “The Amanda Show.”
“Over the last decade, countless child actors have come forward to bravely share their experiences of abuse by adults in entertainment,” Bolleau’s lawyers Douglas Wigdor and Jane Kim said in a statement to TheWrap on Monday. “As former government prosecutors, our message to the entertainment industry is simple: This conduct is inexcusable, and those involved — directly or indirectly — must be held accountable.”
