Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy launched into a threatening rant Sunday amid the now-collapsed U.S.-Canada trade negotiations, but not before boasting about beer being sold at President Donald Trump’s IndyCar race at the U.S. Capital.
“They can sell beer – this is the first time they’re gonna sell beer at the mall of the Capital!” Duffy boasted during an appearance Sunday on Fox News.
Duffy then went on to praise the president for spearheading the event – one in which onlookers have warned of “bumpy” track conditions – claiming that “none of this would happen without Donald Trump.” He was then asked about trade talks having fallen through between Washington and Ottawa.
“We’re great trading partners, but Canada gets the benefit of trading with the U.S. way more than the U.S. gets the benefit of trading with Canada,” Duffy said.
Then Duffy claimed, wrongly, that Canada has no military.
“It’s a country that doesn’t have a military, it has a single-payer health care system that’s failing, they have record-high euthanasia rates, and so to think they’re going to go to war with Donald Trump and actually win that war with the U.S., I think is foolish on their part. I think you’re gonna see [Canadian Prime Minister] Mark Carney come to the table very, very quickly because it’s going to be devastating for his country.”
Talks between Washington and Ottawa fell through Friday after the Trump administration proposed a series of “last-minute” demands, Carney claimed, including that Canada “change its French language” and grant the United States unprecedented control over its trading partners. Details of the Trump administration’s demands, which continue to be reported on, have left a number of onlookers floored.
