Starting Saturday, 1.66 miles of D.C. streets will be walled off as 25 IndyCars speed past the U.S. Capitol, Smithsonian museums and other buildings around the National Mall. The Freedom 250 Grand Prix will consist of 147 laps that will cover 250 miles.
Bridges will allow access to the “Stripes” ticket area inside the race circuit that features grandstands and private suites.
Both the “Stars” and “Stripes” ticket areas will feature viewing platforms and fan zones that include diver autograph sessions and interactive displays sponsored by the Air National Guard.
Race teams and drivers will prepare for the race out of temporary garages in the paddock near the National Gallery of Art.

Joining other recent events — such as a UFC fight on the White House lawn in June and a replicated “state fair” on the National Mall in July — this weekend’s Freedom 250 Grand Prix will be the last major event designed to celebrate the nation’s birthday and uses the District’s historic landmarks as a backdrop.
