Brad Pitt’s daughter Vivienne, whom he shares with ex-wife Angelina Jolie, has moved forward with her ongoing legal effort to drop “Pitt” from her last name.
According to Los Angeles County Superior Court documents obtained and reviewed by TheWrap, the 18-year-old has completed a required step in the process by publishing a legal notice announcing her intent to change her name from “Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt” to “Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.”
The notice was published in the Los Angeles Daily Journal once a week for four consecutive weeks, appearing July 24, July 31, Aug. 7 and Aug. 14, according to court documents. California law requires applicants seeking a legal name change to publish notice of their petition in a newspaper.
Vivienne initially filed her petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court on July 21, nine days after turning 18. Her hearing is scheduled for Nov. 2. The documents also noted that anyone objecting to the name change “must file a written objection that includes the reason for the objection at least two court days before the matter is scheduled to be heard.” The person opposing the request must also appear in court.
Vivienne is one of six children shared by Pitt, 62, and Jolie, 51.
Vivienne is the latest of the former couple’s children to seek the legal removal of “Pitt” from their last names. Shiloh, 20, Maddox, 25, and Zahara, 21, have also filed to change their names.
Shiloh’s petition was granted in 2024. Maddox began the process in May, with a hearing set for Sept. 14, while Zahara filed in June, with a hearing set for Sept. 28.
Pitt and Jolie’s divorce became one of Hollywood’s longest and most contentious legal battles after Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, just two years after the couple married. The split followed an alleged altercation aboard a private plane carrying the family from France to Los Angeles. Jolie sought primary custody of their six children, and the couple spent years fighting over custody and finances. Pitt was investigated over allegations stemming from the plane incident but was not charged.
Although Pitt and Jolie were declared legally single in 2019, it took another five years to resolve the remaining divorce issues. They reached a settlement in December 2024, ending the eight-year divorce case. The terms were not publicly disclosed.
Neither Pitt nor Jolie has ever commented publicly on the children’s name change requests. Representatives for both Pitt and Jolie did not immediately return TheWrap’s request for comment.
