Cornered Trump-loyal lawmaker folds in on-air interview: ‘Crazy, stupid thing’

Trump-snubbed GOP senator teases dramatic live decision on whether he’ll sink Todd Blanche

A Republican senator made a stunning admission Sunday morning when he found himself cornered during a live interview.

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) collapsed under pressure from CNN anchor Jake Tapper and admitted his personal opinion about President Donald Trump.

“That’s a crazy, stupid thing,” said Cassidy. “Yeah.”

Tapper was grilling Cassidy on Trump’s executive order reducing the number of childhood vaccine recommendations from 18 to 11 and calling for the separation of vaccines for measles, mumps and rubella, rather than the combined MMR.

Cassidy, a physician, has expressed great concern about the Make America Healthy Again movement and anti-vaccine rhetoric from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

Those concerns did not stop Cassidy from confirming Kennedy’s nomination to lead the Health department.

Tapper commented Sunday that Cassidy has previously said someone needs to stand up to “crazy, stupid things” being said to undermine confidence in vaccines.

“Is Trump saying some of those ‘crazy, stupid things?’” Tapper asked.

Cassidy admitted he thought it was and explained why — he said the president was going to cause American children physical pain.

“The child is going to get more jabs, the parent’s going to lose money,” he said. “This is why the president’s poll numbers are going down — because people don’t perceive he knows the reality of their life.”

Cassidy’s frustration with Trump did not stop him from also confirming Attorney General Todd Blanche — despite stated misgivings.
