Rowdy cruise passengers blare false alarm that Italian ship was floating adrift: report

A crew of unruly passengers on an Italian cruise ship were arrested after they allegedly broadcasted fake emergency announcements over the ship’s PA system on Thursday, police said.

The troublemakers raised the phony alarm while onboard the MSC Divina cruise ship around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, Italian outlets La Repubblica and Napoli Today reported.

The six young adults made their way to the ship’s intercom and blasted out bogus emergency alerts that the ship was floating adrift as it sailed from Marmaris, Turkey to Naples, Italy, according to La Repubblica.

Freaked-out vacationers immediately reported the alert to Italian officials, who checked the ship when it docked into the port of the Italian city of Naples, according to the reports.

The outlets said that authorities investigated after a complaint was made by the ship’s captain and were able to trace the transmission back to the six bozos.

The terrible travellers were then dealt with by authorities for alleged unauthorized access to a computer system and causing an alarm, according to reports.

“[A]n unauthorized announcement was broadcast on the ship’s PA system,” a MSC Cruises spokesperson shared with People, while also adding that the operation of the ship was never jeopardized.

The false alarm was “immediately resolved and changes put in place to ensure it won’t happen again,” the MSC spokesperson said, according to the outlet.
