President Donald Trump’s obsession with the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool has reached a new low as he now has members of his administration fighting each other over it.
On MS NOW’s “Morning Joe,” co-host Jonathan Lemire called the fight between US Attorney Jeanine Pirro and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum “embarrassing” for all — and mostly for the president.
With Pirro dropping her case against David “Davey” Hearn for damaging the pool, and pointing the finger at Interior — which has returned fire — over the botched repair work, Trump weighed in on Monday and accused the former Fox News personality of “folding” in an Oval Office rant that has just focused more attention on Trump’s priorities.
“This is embarrassing,” Lemire exclaimed. “Let’s just say it: it’s embarrassing. And it reminds me of an episode in the first term where Trump put out some warning on Twitter about a hurricane, and he included Alabama as one of the states that could have been impacted by that. And that was wrong; he made a mistake.”
“But then to justify it, he brought a map into the Oval Office with a Sharpie, just like he uses, and he drew a thing,” he recalled. “But then more worrisomely, he then went to the government and had them almost go back and reverse engineer the idea that Alabama actually had been in danger. And it was ridiculous, and it was a lie, one of many he told in that first term.”
“This is also that he’s flat out embarrassed,” he accused. “He cared about this Reflecting Pool; he wanted it done for July 4th. He picked the contractor. It didn’t happen. And now he’s trying to lash out because he, of course, can’t admit a mistake.”
