Trump tries to dismiss Canada’s bridge party snub

President Donald Trump declared in a Truth Social post Friday that he was fine after getting publicly snubbed.

After Canadian officials disinvited the U.S. from the Gordie Howe Bridge opening ceremony in Michigan, Trump used the opportunity to boast about tariffs and renegotiated terms of the deal.

“Canada disinvited the United States of America to the opening of the Gordie Howe Bridge, which is fine, considering they are paying substantial TARIFFS to the United States, but the original Deal on the Bridge, which was terribly negotiated by a previous Administration, no longer stands,” Trump wrote.

He added, “We changed the terms of the Deal so that the United States of America now gets 50% of the Profit. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Originally, both countries were expected to participate in the opening ceremony. But Canadian officials pivoted after Trump imposed a new round of tariffs on most Canadian goods.

Jenna Ghassabeh, the spokesperson for Canadian Infrastructure Minister Gregor Robertson, shared a statement via email with the Associated Press.

“In light of trade action threatened by the United States earlier this week, it would be inappropriate to proceed with a celebratory event between the two countries,” she explained.
