A pop star is furious her song appeared in a White House video about military strikes in Iran.
Katy Perry took to X Saturday to condemn the Trump administration for using her 2010 hit “Firework” in a White House video posted on TikTok earlier this week.
“I am deeply appalled and angry to see ‘Firework’ used on the @WhiteHouse TikTok account as a backing track for video footage of military strikes,” Perry wrote. “I did not approve this, I was not asked, and I absolutely do not condone it.”
The TikTok video — in which we see explosives erupt in Iran as Perry sings “boom, boom, boom” — was still present on the White House account as of Saturday afternoon.
It isn’t the first time that entertainment stars have denounced Trump’s use or planned use of their material. The late Leonard Cohen’s estate even refused to let Trump use “Hallelujah” for the Great American State Fair.
Perry, who is dating former Canadian leader Justin Trudeau, said she was upset to see her music set to military violence.
“My music is for bringing people together, not celebrating warfare” she wrote.
“I wrote this song to be an anthem of hope, healing, and inner strength for people going through their darkest personal moments,” Perry continued.
“To see a message of self-worth and upliftment weaponized to soundtrack destruction and violence is a complete violation of everything my song stands for.”
Onlookers ridiculed the Trump administration for getting caught red-handed by the pop star.
Former GOP congressman Adam Kinzinger wrote, “The White House has no cool people supporting them.”
