‘Total delusions’: GOP senator blasted for bizarre claim colleagues ‘didn’t legally win’

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) took President Donald Trump’s unfounded claims of election fraud and took them to a new level on Thursday.

“We probably have four or five senators that didn’t legally win,” Tuberville said in an interview on the right-wing Newsmax network. “They shouldn’t be up here.” He did not elaborate on who these fraudulent senators are or provide any evidence for the claim.

Tuberville, who is leaving the Senate this year to seek the governor’s mansion instead, got instantly buried in mockery — with a number of commenters on X pointing out that he himself has been accused of secretly living in Florida as he represents Alabama.

“Just total authoritarian delusions,” wrote Zeteo News’ Mehdi Hasan.

“The Constitution puts the Senate in charge of who to seat. By definition, senators are there legally,” wrote author Jonathan Allen.

“This is what hatred for our country looks like,” wrote former Texas congressional candidate Isaiah Martin.

“So the party that certified the election, seated the senators, and controls Congress is now claiming its own senators didn’t legally win?” wrote Alex Cole of Newsitics. “This man is a (expletive) idiot.”

“Why y’all interviewing someone who didn’t even vote in his own state?” wrote Temple Baptist Church Rev. Dr. Marvin Tiller, Jr.

“It’s a low bar these days, to be sure,” wrote sports reporter Mike Lupica. “But Tuberville doesn’t sound like someone who coached football. He sounds like someone who played it without a helmet.”
