Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett testified on the need for greater security funding for the Supreme Court, a development that comes after years of threats of violence against judges and occasional horrific murders.
But MAGA activists’ reaction to the news was to call for Barrett to resign from the bench and accuse her of being cowed by threats on her life into ruling against President Donald Trump, according to The Daily Beast,
Barrett was largely speaking about the threats around her vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, a case in which she solidly backed the right-wing orthodoxy. However, Republicans focused mainly on her ruling with the majority to strike down Trump’s birthright citizenship restriction order this term, insinuating with no evidence her vote was intimidated out of her.
“Millions of police officers and military members explain body armor to their kids every day. If you can’t explain to a 12 yr old boy, you have no business making national decisions,” wrote Kyle Seraphin, a former FBI agent who now backs the MAGA movement.
Meanwhile, former InfoWars reporter Breanna Morello raged, “Justice Amy Coney Barrett is discussing all the threats she’s facing. It’s sad and shouldn’t happen, but this shouldn’t be an excuse to cave. Her rulings have been out of character. If these threats are an issue for her family, she should step down now.”
And far-right commentators Matt Walsh flatly attacked Barrett as a “DEI” hire, flatly implying that she has no qualifications other than being a woman.
This comes as Trump supporters are also blowing up at the president’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement czar Tom Homan for agreeing to a temporary pause on traffic stops in the wake of multiple high-profile ICE killings.
