President Donald Trump’s “Great American State Fair” suffered yet another blow on Thursday, as an evacuation was ordered for the entire fairground.
The evacuation was announced on X by the account for Freedom 250, the partisan organization Trump created to effectively take over the job of putting on America’s 250th anniversary celebrations from the nonpartisan America250 committee created by Congress.
“For your safety, Freedom 250 is directing all guests to immediately evacuate the event grounds due to approaching severe weather,” said the announcement. “This decision was made in coordination with the National Capital Region Planning Committee and our public safety partners. Please remain calm and proceed to the nearest exit. Follow all instructions from law enforcement, event staff, and volunteers.”
In a follow-up post, Freedom 250 further announced, “The Freedom 250 Rodeo & FIFA Fan Zone is postponed until tomorrow, Friday, July 10th,” and that “Our team is monitoring conditions and assessing when it is safe to welcome guests back into the venue today.”
Friday is set to be the final day of the Great American State Fair.
It’s not the first time that weather has impacted the fair, which was already suffering a dismal turnout throughout the entire festivities. It comes after a number of other humiliations, including several states refusing outright to send delegations, sponsors pulling out, and infrastructure collapses that put people’s safety in danger.
