President Donald Trump faced ridicule on social media after a video of an Air Force One press gaggle was published.
In the video, Trump claimed he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize more than Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.
Returning from NATO meetings in Ankara, Turkey, Wednesday night, Trump told reporters, “I would say I should have won that award more than anybody that ever received the Nobel Peace Prize,” and reiterated he settled “eight wars.”
Though Machado previously dedicated her award to Trump, the Nobel Prize committee clarified her comments don’t constitute an official transfer.
Critics roasted Trump online, with author Jason Overstreet tweeting, “It’s so cool how America is essentially numb to the fact that the president of the United States is completely insane.”
Democratic strategist Leslie Marshall asked the President to reserve his comments.
“Is he going to call [Gianni] Infantino?” Etan Nechin, a New York correspondent for Haaretz, posted on X. FIFA president Gianni Infantino awarded Trump the FIFA Peace Prize last year.
