Californians who celebrate too much this Fourth of July holiday are being offered free rides home to avoid drunk driving and keep the roads safe.
Residents in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Coachella, Rancho Mirage and a handful of other southern California towns can get a free ride home from a cab or Lyft driver to avoid getting on the road impaired from parties celebrating America’s 250th birthday.

From Saturday July 4th at 10 p.m. until 3 a.m. on July 5 the Walter Clark Legal Group is offering anyone a free ride home, as part of the firm’s Safe Ride Program.
“I have and just about everybody I know has at some time driven when they shouldn’t, and the reason that happens is that after you have a drink, you think you’re fine,” Walter Clark, founder of the law firm, said in a statement, per the announcement from Eventbrite.
“That’s the effect of impairment.”

The firm will reimburse the driver a one-way ride home or to a safe destination, with one per household per day. The offer is valid for a maximum fare of $50.
The program “rewards impaired drivers who make the right choice,” the announcement read.
For over a decade, the firm has been offering the program to keep impaired drivers off the road during busy holidays like Independence Day, when there’s more accidents.

Rides must be taken within the following Coachella Valley cities:
- Palm Springs
- Palm Desert
- Cathedral City
- Desert Hot Springs
- Rancho Mirage
- Indian Wells
- La Quinta
- Bermuda Dunes
- Coachella
- Victorville
- El Centro
- Banning
- Yucca Valley
- Morongo Valley

Additionally, this offer is only good for drivers 21 years of age or older and with a valid driver’s license.
The reimbursement coupon can be found here.
