Fox News’ Bill Hemmer handed Republicans a brutal midterm forecast Tuesday, including one scenario that would give Democrats a 39-seat House advantage, an outcome he dubbed a “blue-nami.”
“In the House, we believe right now, based on what we’re seeing on the map, that Democrats will take control of the U.S. House,” Hemmer said.
Even in a scenario Hemmer described as a “good night” for Republicans, Democrats would still capture a slim 219-216 House majority. In a “good night” for Democrats, Fox News projected the party would hold 237 seats to Republicans’ 198.
“A Democratic good night… would that be a blue-nami? At 237? Might be, you could make the case it would be,” Hemmer said. “A Republican good night is to keep those numbers down to 219.”
Republicans face an increasingly uphill battle in the midterms as President Donald Trump’s deeply unpopular war against Iran keeps fuel prices elevated nationwide. Trump — who has made himself the face of the Republican Party this cycle — has sunk to career-low approval ratings in recent weeks, a drag on GOP campaigns that even some of his most loyal allies have admitted.
Midterm polling has turned so dire for Republicans that some Democrats see a shot at flipping seats in several deep-red states, including Kansas’ Senate seat, which hasn’t been held by a Democrat since 1939.
In Kansas, Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) is running neck and neck with Democrat Adam Hamilton in a state Trump carried by 16 points in 2024. The tight race has prompted Republicans to enlist a top Trump operative to help rescue Marshall’s campaign.
The Senate Leadership Fund, the main super PAC aligned with Senate GOP leadership, is spending $14 million in Kansas after shifting resources away from North Carolina. There, former Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper holds a significant polling lead over former Republican National Committee chair Michael Whatley.
