After the triumphant Knicks return to New York from Texas as N.B.A. champions, they will receive a ticker-tape parade and the keys to the city at a ceremony at City Hall on Thursday, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said.
“New Yorkers have cheered for our team from packed living rooms in the Bronx to watch parties in Brooklyn, from bars in Queens to Staten Island to Manhattan, and Madison Square Garden itself,” Mr. Mamdani said in a statement Saturday night. “Now, it’s time for our city to celebrate together.”
Municipal buildings across the city will be illuminated in blue and orange on Thursday. Mr. Mamdani said that other details about the festivities would be released on Sunday.
“For more than 50 years, New Yorkers have waited for this moment,” Mr. Mamdani said. “Through near misses, heartbreak and a hope that every year could be our year, this city never stopped believing in the Knicks. And this team fulfilled that hope with grit, resilience and heart — just like the five boroughs itself.”
The last New York sports team to be honored with a parade was the Liberty, after they won the W.N.B.A. title in 2024.
City Hall said the Knicks’ ticker-tape parade will be the first in the team’s 80-year history.
