Every time we talk to Slop Shop founder Connor Clarke he is walking in the Yorkshire countryside. We like to imagine him as an Emily Brontë character, striding the moors in a greatcoat and riding boots, cravat protecting his neck from the biting northern winds. It’s hard to reconcile this bucolic fantasy with his very real creative output: glitchy, surreal AI-generated film, for Connor is a world-leader in the avant-garde use of such technology. What would Brontë have done with the awesome power of AI? We will never know, because she died in 1848, 174 years before the release of ChatGPT.

GREEBO
We met Greebo at the last VICE issue launch party, and his presence screamed “chutzpah.” From gatecrashing the event, to rallying his friends to psyop us into working with him, Greebo has the go-getting attitude we love to see. We sent him to do the vox pops for this issue on the day he got a Labubu and the word “PISS” tattooed on his arm. He is currently keeping his late mother’s memory alive by using her gym membership, and is banned from the Brixton branch of Turtle Bay for shouting “ME TINK MI GWAAN TEK MI OWN LIFE IF ME NUH GET MI FREE PLANTAIN” in a thick Surrey accent.

AI NICK LAND
People have a lot of issues with AI, and for the most part, we can understand their concerns. However, when it came to the crunch, we could find no corporeal human person willing to take on the challenge of attending and reviewing one of AI Homer Simpson’s raucous live shows. Our undying gratitude, then, must go to AI Nick Land, who stepped up to the plate with no questions asked, and who filed his copy in a flash. What a stand-up guy.
