Ex-reality TV candidate says he’s ‘unlike Trump’ in a major way

Former reality TV star and current Los Angeles mayor candidate Spencer Pratt described why he might share some ideas in common with President Donald Trump — but there is one big difference between the two, according to an exclusive Vanity Fair interview published on Wednesday.

Pratt told Vanity Fair that although both he and Trump share a reality TV history, the two don’t have the same stances when it comes to ICE and immigration. The candidate, who has argued that he is a Republican, has been criticized for lacking political or governing experience but has received some praise from Trump. And despite his appeal among Trump’s MAGA base with some of his talking points around crime and homelessness, he does not identify as MAGA.

“One of the concrete policy proposals that’s come out of Pratt’s campaign is a plan to build a giant treatment facility on federal lands on the outskirts of town,” Vanity Fair reported. “The facility is where he says he’ll put thousands of people suffering with substance disorders who are currently living on the street. And with the help of experienced developers, Pratt says it’ll go up with unprecedented speed—a campaign promise that sounds like President Trump’s pledge to construct a border wall with Mexico in 2016 and have Mexico pay for it (the roughly $46 billion wall project, paid for by US taxpayers, has faced repeated delays).”

“In that way, Trump and Pratt’s campaigns are very similar,” according to Vanity Fair. “Pratt, like his fellow former reality TV star, has promised to lock up the city’s violent criminals, addicts, and rapists if he’s elected.”

“However, unlike Trump, Pratt says he wants federal immigration officers out of Los Angeles,” Vanity Fair reported.

Pratt said he does not support immigration raids at restaurants or Home Depot.

“I’ve said a million times, I don’t want ICE here but I want to get the murderers and rapists out,” Pratt told Vanity Fair. “I’ve eaten more Mexican food than any white person in Los Angeles. I love Mexican people… I ate Mexican [food] three days a week for literally maybe 10 years.”
