President Donald Trump exploded on Truth Social on Sunday after Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) appeared on Fox News to discuss redistricting, the Iran war and competition with China, with Trump calling the congressman a “sleazebag” and accusing him of trying to steal credit for the steel industry’s revival.
The apparent trigger was Khanna’s comments about Chinese steel, where the California Democrat told Fox News anchor Jacqui Heinrich that he was “horrified” to see Chinese steel at the Port of Cleveland and called for protecting American steel manufacturing.
“When I was in Cleveland, at the Port of Cleveland, I was horrified to see Chinese steel there,” Khanna said. “Why aren’t we getting that from Cleveland-Cliffs or an American steel company?”
Cleveland-Cliffs is the largest flat-rolled steel producer in North America.
Khanna also called out Chinese companies setting up manufacturing facilities in the United States, accusing them of hiring undocumented workers, violating labor laws and competing on an uneven playing field.
“That cannot go on. The president needs to make it clear to China that they should not be opening manufacturing in the United States, subsidizing it and violating the law,” Khanna demanded.
The interview sent Trump into a Truth Social rage.
“The Sleazebag, Radical Left Congressman from the failed State of California, Ro Khanna, should not be allowed on FoxNews unless you have an ‘anchor’ who is capable of disputing his lies, one after another, and closing down his FAKE (Bulls—!) narrative. He is similar, but worse than Hakeem Jeffries, only with a somewhat higher IQ. This morning he tried, on behalf of the Dumacrats, to take credit for the Steel Industry pouring back into the U.S., knowing full well that the Dumbs virtually destroyed it, and I SAVED IT, through strong Tariffs (PLUS!). Our Country was DEAD during the last ‘Administration,’ and now it is hotter than ever before. We can’t allow the Dumacrats to take credit for this. If elected, they will fully destroy our thriving, and now very respected, Nation. I will NOT let that happen!!!” Trump wrote.
During the interview, Khanna also hit Trump on several other fronts, noting that gas prices and food prices are up, that the country is in a war in Iran , and that the administration hasn’t released all of the Epstein files. Those issues, he predicted, will help Democrats win back the House in November.
Khanna has been one of the most vocal Democratic critics of Trump’s Iran war, having co-authored bipartisan War Powers legislation to force a congressional vote on the conflict.
