The collapse, and constant flux, of this week’s legislative schedule caused a meltdown within the House Republican caucus on Wednesday, as members went at each other’s throats over the failure to pass major priorities.
One of the largest sticking points remains the farm bill, which was forced to be delayed amid ongoing disagreements, only to be put back on schedule.
According to NOTUS reporter Reese Gorman, far-right Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) was infuriated over the back and forth, accusing House Speaker Mike Johnson of reneging on his word to give more time to sort out the issues.
Per the reporting, Roy stormed out of a meeting with Johnson, shouting, “We had an agreement today and then you changed it!! I’m going to go vote no!!”
This comes amid days of additional drama around the farm bill, which would be the first major reauthorization of agricultural and food programs since 2018.
In another incident yesterday, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) broke ranks with her party to join Democrats in sinking a House rule to facilitate passage of legislation, infuriated after a number of her own amendments were blocked.
