President Donald Trump issued an ultimatum to Senate Republicans on Truth Social Saturday, threatening catastrophic political consequences if they fail to pass his “SAVE America Act” and suggesting the party eliminate the filibuster to do so.
“Not passing the SAVE AMERICA ACT will lead to the worst results for a political party in the HISTORY of the United States Senate. An Unrecoverable Death Wish!!!” Trump posted, framing the legislation as a make-or-break test of GOP loyalty.
In the same message, Trump escalated his demands by calling for the elimination of the Senate filibuster—a procedural tool that has protected minority party interests for generations.
“Likewise, the FILIBUSTER – TERMINATE IT NOW!!!” Trump wrote, suggesting Republicans should be willing to dismantle fundamental Senate rules to advance his election-related priorities.
The SAVE America Act represents Trump’s top legislative priority, but it has drawn criticism from Democrats and Republicans alike concerned about constitutional questions. The plan would make it more difficult for poor people to vote, according to experts.
