President Donald Trump took to social media Monday to insist that the decision to launch a war against Iran was entirely his own, a remark that comes amid growing claims that Israel had “pulled” him into the conflict.
“Israel never talked me into the war with Iran, the results of Oct. 7th, added to my lifelong opinion that IRAN CAN NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON, did,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.
“I watch and read the FAKE NEWS Pundits and Polls in total disbelief. 90% of what they say are lies and made up stories, and the polls are rigged, much as the 2020 Presidential Election was rigged.”
Among the more high-profile figures who have accused Trump of being dragged into a conflict with Iran by Israel is Joe Kent, who resigned from the Trump administration in March as the head of the National Counterterrorism Center in protest. In his resignation letter, Kent explicitly accused Israel of having manipulated Trump into launching the war against Iran.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris made a similar accusation on Saturday, claiming that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had “pulled” Trump “into” launching a war against Iran. Netanyahu has pushed for the United States to attack Iran since at least the 1990s.
