TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WHNT) — Nick Saban is among those expected to speak along with President Donald Trump at the University of Alabama’s commencement Thursday.

School officials announced Tuesday night that Saban and University President Stuart R. Bell would give comments along with President Trump’s address.

Saban retired from coaching after 17 years with the Crimson Tide in 2024.

President Trump announced he would speak eight days ago in a Truth Social post. He stated that he will also speak at the U.S. Military Academy.

After the announcement, Alabama released this statement:

The University of Alabama is honored to have been selected as one of the universities President Donald J. Trump will visit to deliver a spring commencement address. This ticketed event will be held the evening of Thursday, May 1, at Coleman Coliseum and will be open to all spring 2025 graduates.

All spring graduates will have the opportunity to attend this distinct event in addition to their college-specific ceremonies where degrees will be conferred from May 2–May 4, as scheduled. Campus logistics and security measures are being carefully coordinated, and ticketing information for graduates and other event details will be communicated in the coming days.

We look forward to celebrating our graduates throughout commencement weekend as we confer degrees to thousands of hardworking students who will go on to make a positive impact in the workforce and in communities across Alabama, our nation and the world.

School officials said candidates for spring commencement will have priority seating as part of this special event. Free tickets were also offered to graduates’ guests; summer and fall graduates and their guests; as well as a limited number of tickets for faculty, staff and other students.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive at least two hours early as enhanced security measures will be in place to ensure a safe event for all participants. Doors to the Coliseum will open at 3 p.m.

Parking for attendees will be available in the Soccer Lot that can be accessed from University Boulevard with shuttle bus services to and from Coleman Coliseum.

For a full list of prohibited items, visit the event website. Any bags brought into the Coliseum must be clear. Items surrendered at security checkpoints will not be returned.
