MAS is a contemporary Japanese furniture brand redefining woodworking through innovative applications of Japan’s native softwoods. Founded in 2021 by Karimoku Furniture Inc., MAS is now making its international debut, bringing a distinctive fusion of craftsmanship, material innovation and design excellence to the global stage.

Although cultivated softwoods account for approximately 40% of Japan’s forests, they require specialized techniques to enhance their durability. MAS leverages Karimoku’s advanced woodworking expertise to maximize the potential of Hinoki (Japanese Cypress), crafting furniture that is both resilient and visually striking.

Under the creative direction of esteemed Japanese designer Wataru Kumano, MAS collaborates with renowned international designers Ville Kokkonen and Daniel Rybakken to create pieces that seamlessly blend tradition with contemporary aesthetics. Among its standout designs is the VK Side Table 01 by Ville Kokkonen, inspired by the understated elegance of Hinoki. Featuring a triangular top for space efficiency and modular adaptability, this side table effortlessly combines style and function. Another highlight is the DR Chair 01 Pad by Daniel Rybakken, which merges ergonomic comfort with modern design. Upholstered in Kvadrat fabric, this chair features a soft cushioned seat and an exposed “Sumiki” (corner block) structure, adding a unique architectural element.

Rounding out the collection are the WK Chair 01 Pad, WK Armchair 01 Pad, VK Divider, DD Dining Table 01, WK Stool 01 and WK Shelf Bench, each exemplifying the brand’s dedication to refined craftsmanship and forward-thinking design.

For more details on MAS’ designs, head over to its official website. The brand will also present its debut collection at Milan Design Week 2025, giving a global audience the chance to experience its innovative approach firsthand.
