LONDON — Fashionistas, shield your eyes.
First, U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spoiled Adidas Sambas for everyone. Now Britain’s Brexiteer-in-chief Nigel Farage is set to drive on-trend Adidas sneaker stablemate Gazelles into the ground.
The former Brexit Party leader, now a host for the right-wing GB News channel, posed Wednesday for a social media video in a pair of navy blue Adidas Gazelles.
“So Rishi Sunak thought he’d get down cool with the kids and it bombed!”‘ Farage said in the video set to a musical backdrop. “I’m not a Samba man, I’m more of a Gazelles man myself,” he said.
The fresh blow for fashion comes just days after Sunak was forced to apologize following an online backlash from fashionistas angry he paired Adidas Samba trainers with suit trousers and a white shirt.
“In my defense, I would say I have been wearing Adidas trainers and Sambas and others in fact for many, many years,” the prime minister told LBC earlier April. But he added: “I offer a fulsome apology to the Samba community.”
Don’t expect an apology from Farage. The ex-MEP also took a chance to swipe at a rival sports brand which has come under fire from British conservatives over its edit of a football shirt.
“Did you notice in the London Marathon, Adidas [were] dominating everything? Unlike Nike, who’ve gone all politically correct and all woke,” he offered.
Nike did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
