On February 25, Lady Gabriella Kingston, a second cousin of King Charles III, lost her husband, Thomas Kingston, at the age of 45 to what a coroner called a “catastrophic head wound.” According to the Daily Mail, she has moved back to the Kensington Palace apartment shared by her parents, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.
“They wanted Ella to be with them, and she didn’t want to be alone in the home she shared with Tom,” one friend told the Mail’s Richard Eden. “All of us are rallying round and she’s going to be OK.”
Kingston’s death happened amid a series of stressful events for the royal family, which included cancer diagnoses for the king, Kate Middleton, and Sarah Ferguson. Gabriella, who turned 43 on Tuesday, married Thomas in a 2019 Windsor Castle ceremony. Thomas, who previously served as a hostage negotiator in Iraq, worked as a director at Devonport Capital at the time of his death. His funeral was held at Chapel Royal in St James Palace, and Prince William was among a small group of guests who gathered to honor his life. The service was followed by a reception and private cremation.
The Kents have lived in a five-bedroom palace apartment gifted by Queen Elizabeth II since 1979, though until the early 2000s, they also owned Nether Lypiatt Manor, a country home in Gloucestershire. On Friday, Prince and Princess Michael were spotted in public for the first time since their son-in-law’s funeral, after a dinner at private members club Oswald’s.
