Donald Trump is “collapsing on multiple fronts” according to a veteran economist.
Paul Krugman believes the president will struggle in the coming weeks, especially after the Senate voted unanimously to release Jeffrey Epstein’s files. The Epstein Transparency Act passed the House of Representatives on Tuesday by a vote of 427-1. The bill was then voted through the Senate and will officially pass to Congress today (November 19).
The bill could be Trump’s undoing, as Krugman suggested there will be a loss of “all faith” in Trump, who is facing pressure amid a cost-of-living crisis. Krugman wrote in his Substack, “Trump seems to be collapsing on multiple fronts, with the collapse on each front reinforcing the collapse on others.”
“The Epstein affair is coming to a head even as the public loses all faith in his economic policy, and the whole structure of fear on which his regime rests appears to be evaporating. He also seems to be unraveling personally.”
“We always knew that President ‘Piggy’ despised women and admired tyrants, seeing nothing wrong with hacking up your critics with a bone saw. But even a few months ago I think he would have been self-controlled enough to be less obvious about it.”
“I don’t know how this ends, but all of a sudden a rapid implosion looks possible. No, I don’t know what that looks like. But the U.S. political universe looks very different than it did a few weeks ago.” Between the Epstein files and the economy, it seems voters are being swayed by the big issues that threaten to “collapse” the president and the GOP, according to the expert.
Trump also lashed out at a Bloomberg News reporter earlier this week, with a legal expert suggesting this could be his “Joseph McCarthy moment”. On Monday, Trump was asked by a reporter on Air Force One about the Jeffrey Epstein files. Trump snapped at the reporter and said, “Quiet, Piggy.”
Joyce Vance, a law professor at the University of Alabama and MSNBC contributor, responded to Trump’s comments in a new Substack essay. She wrote, “It’s particularly galling that the president’s response to a legitimate question about the matter is ‘Quiet Piggy.’”
“I keep coming back to the Joseph McCarthy moment where the red-baiting senator was finally asked, ‘Have you no decency,’ and his cult of personality burst.”
