A prominent right-wing data analyst who has been amplified by Elon Musk caught heat from her own followers this week for saying the early vote numbers matched Republicans’ midterm wipeout. Then her mother stepped in.
The account DataRepublican, run by software engineer Jennica Pounds, posted over the weekend that early voting data in North Carolina “showed a 15 point shift to the blue, consistently, everywhere, when in-person voting starting.”
“At no point did any of the early vote analysts call out fraud,” she wrote. “I’m not ruling out the possibility of fraud, but the results were consistent with what early vote showed.”
The post drew more than 400,000 views. It also apparently angered some of her followers, who have spent the week pushing claims that the midterms were stolen.
That’s when an account called “MOMof DataRepublican” stepped in.
“Ok, please, everybody needs to calm down. She is saying that the data supports the results. That’s it,” the account wrote. “I have permission from her to make this post because she is frustrated that ‘people are r—-ed.’”
“She is the messenger, not the creator!” the account continued. “I told you she is not clairvoyant. She is a data engineer. She has about 20 patents and not one of them is for telling the future or revealing fraud. Now, please be kind. This is hard!!”
Even while defending her daughter’s analysis, the account suggested something was off. “It does look like fraud, but now someone else needs to step up and figure out the how,” it wrote.
In a follow-up, the account added: “I can’t help it. It’s very hard right now because I’m physically with her, and the emotions are real and even though she’s an adult in her 40s, I’m still her mom.”
Pounds herself soon shifted focus. In a lengthy thread titled “THE DEMOCRACY FILES / ILLEGITIMACY PLAYBOOK, PART 16: HOW THE MIDTERMS WERE PULLED OFF,” she argued that Democrats won because progressive groups “built an entire and expensive institutional machinery around getting people physically to the polls.”
“I do NOT deny the existence of voter fraud,” she wrote. “Saying the data doesn’t show that others claim to show, is not equivalent to saying there is no fraud.”
By Sunday, she was warning that “we are very very close to losing our Republic, because they want to stamp out all threats to ‘our democracy’ for once and for all.”
