Raging MAGA supporters target major pet brand over response to Charlie Kirk joke

Chewy’s attempt to distance itself from the progressive podcast “I’ve Had It” isn’t satisfying some prominent voices on the right. They say the pet supply giant is dodging the fact that it paid to advertise on the show.

“We do not sponsor or support the ‘I’ve Had It’ podcast,” Chewy wrote on social media on Saturday, in a post that drew more than 5 million views. “We unequivocally condemn violence in all forms. The comments made by the hosts do not reflect Chewy’s values or what we stand for as a company.”

The backlash began after hosts Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan laughed on Thursday’s episode at a social media post reading “we’re digging up Charlie Kirk and doing it again.” Kirk, the Turning Point USA founder, was assassinated in September 2025.

Fox Business anchor Dagen McDowell said Chewy’s statement leaves something out.

“Neither @chewy nor its CEO @sumitsingh acknowledge the fact this public company DID sponsor this vomitous podcast for roughly two years,” McDowell wrote. “Why?”

She shared what she said was a now-deactivated Chewy landing page for the show’s listeners. She also posted a clip of an Aug. 13 episode that she said included a Chewy sponsorship “with a promotional discount and link (which NOW has been deactivated).”

“Chewy was promoted as a paid sponsor of the podcast,” McDowell wrote.

She also went after Chewy CEO Sumit Singh, posting a screenshot that showed his X account set to private. “Runs a publicly traded company. Locks his X account. Says a lot,” she wrote. Some replies disputed that, saying his account appeared to be public.

The pressure on Chewy started before its statement. On Thursday, former Trump administration official Richard Grenell asked: “Has @Chewy distanced itself from Jennifer Welch’s hateful podcast yet?” His post drew more than 150,000 views.

Right-wing influencer Benny Johnson called the hosts “demonic witches” and “soulless ghouls.” He listed Cash App, Chewy, Lola Blankets and Zenni as advertisers that had pulled out, then posted a long list of the show’s “other recent partners” and urged followers to contact them.

“The only way these demons will learn is if they face consequences,” Johnson wrote.

Cash App confirmed it had cut ties. “We do not condone violence of any kind, and we are no longer sponsors of this podcast,” the company said, according to a statement shared by right-wing influencer Collin Rugg.

Others on the right welcomed Chewy’s statement. “Good for Chewy for distancing itself from Jennifer Welch. I encourage everyone to support their business,” wrote Andrew Kolvet, a longtime Kirk associate at Turning Point USA. “Faith in humanity. Thank you @Chewy,” wrote Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL).

The hosts have apologized. “On Thursday’s show, we laughed at a joke about Charlie Kirk. It was an insensitive joke, and we should not have laughed. We regret it, and we apologize,” they wrote, adding that they had donated to Everytown for Gun Safety.

Writer Kylie Cheung pointed to Kirk’s own record. “So crazy because Charlie Kirk’s entire thing was screaming all day that empathy is stupid and dark comedy/extreme cruelty are just free speech,” she wrote.
