Love it & leaf it: For colorful coupling, head to the Catskills in the fall

If there’s a finer aisle to walk down than a leaf-strewn one in upstate New York, do tell. Between the kaleidoscopic colors, alpine air and venues committed to letting the landscape speak for itself, New York’s Catskills are a knockout setting for weddings.

Ahead, six spots for autumnal nuptials that will have your guests kvelling.

Ah, the enchanting name alone — just think of the intrigue it will elicit on your invitations.

From there: A Murder Mystery rehearsal dinner? Group hikes with the property’s rescue goats? An after-party at Sullivan County’s swankiest indoor pool complete with your photos and videos projected on the wall? The sky’s the limit when planning a wedding at this 230-acre retreat in Neversink, available for weekend buyouts.

Say “I do” in a meadow boasting cinematic valley views bookended by peak foliage, then cocktail hour on the sun deck, dine at the resort’s elegant Bittersweet dining room and dance the night away in a chi-chi wood-paneled yoga barn with a stone fireplace for extra autumnal coziness.

In 2027, the resort will debut a new outdoor pavilion.

Some other extras: Bringing in an astronomer for a private session on the stargazing deck; host a pickleball or kickball tournament, or go apple picking (seasonally) in the property’s orchard.

Danielle Stefanuk, director of wedding sales at the hotel’s parent company, Foster Supply Hospitality, said the property goes above and beyond on the food and beverage front with experiential offerings like foraging, oyster shucking and building your own Bloody Mary bar.

Maximum capacity: 150 guests. Site fee from $18,000 and $35,000 F&B minimum

Urban Cowboy Lodge & Resort

Once upon a time, there was an Urban Cowboy.

And he was actually a delightfully quirky resort in Big Indian, 2.5 hours away from the Harried Engaged City Couple. They booked their wedding weekend and, voilà, 200 acres of wilderness and swanky accommodations was theirs.

If you host your fall ceremony on the front lawn at the Lodge, guests will enjoy a sweeping view of a mosaic of fiery red, orange and gold hues erupting from Slide Mountain. Another great spot to pledge your forever is at the ponds in front of Opa’s Cabin, where the quiet trickle of streams sets an even more tranquil mood.

The Urban Cowboy team has a reputation for saying yes to grand ideas and gets an A+ for executing them from happy newlyweds. For recent clients of Suzanne Birnbaum, founder of Toasted Events, who wed during peak fall color, those lofty visions resulted in a horseback ride and guided hike for interested guests and a welcome party dubbed “The Velvet Rodeo” with a disco-cowboy theme and featuring professional line dancers to teach guests some moves.

Format-wise, there are various packages are available from private dinners for 10 guests to full-property buyouts. Whatever your dream itinerary, be sure to put some time in the books for throwing strikes at the resort’s very own Ralph’s Bar & Bowling.

Maximum capacity: 400 guests. From $5,000

Hayfield

Private estate more your scene? Book your wedding at this scenic escape in Maplecrest, consisting of two barns (circa 200 years old) that have been lovingly restored for events with modern bathrooms, hardwood floors and handblown-glass antique pendant lights.

The property only hosts about a dozen events per year, May through October, and is best suited to those who want a blank slate from which to sketch their wildest whims.

“What makes Hayfield special is the freedom it gives couples to create something that feels completely their own,” said Jessica Milton, social events manager. “In the fall, the changing leaves, crisp mountain air, and surrounding Catskills landscape create an incredible backdrop, while the property itself can transform around the celebration they envision.”

Maximum capacity: 160 guests indoors; 250 guests outdoors with a tent rental. Pricing upon request

Hotel Lilien

An 1890s wood-paneled library and bar? Yes, please.

Romance abounds at this 22-room boutique hotel’s midcentury lodge in Tannersville, with two-story mountain views of changing leaves, a glass chandelier, and custom baluster mezzanine. (One couple even hired a tattoo artist to give guests Hotel Lilien tattoos on said mezzanine during their celebration.)

Outdoors, fields, wooded nooks, and a bluestone pool deck are at the ready as ceremony backdrops.

“Couples often have favorite bakeries to incorporate apple cider donuts as either welcome or late-night snacks, and really lean into the flavors of the season [with] pear margaritas, bourbon apple cider drinks, and spiced, cozy sweets,” shared Jules Miller, the property’s events manager and founder of Revelry Cooperative, an event venue consulting and management service.

“Fall also allows for more drama — darker, saturated flowers and linens, more candlelight, and velvet draping,” continued Miller, noting that tarot readers and mentalists make for a particularly welcome seasonal addition at Hotel Lilien.

Maximum capacity: 140 guests. Fall weekend buyout is $30,000 for a 140-person wedding, exclusive of F&B

The DeBruce

Another resort in the Foster Supply Hospitality portfolio, the DeBruce in Livingston Manor is the venue to book for foodies, with meals prepared by the vaunted namesake restaurant. (FYI: The DeBruce was named the best F&B in the Catskills by Robb Report in 2026 and was a 2024 James Beard Foundation semifinalist for Outstanding Restaurant.)

Weddings are designed as full-property buyouts with a two-night minimum stay in all of the property’s 12 rooms, with cuisine serving as the throughline.

“Get married in the woods, have cocktails overlooking the Willowemoc Valley and then sit down to a meal that actually tells the story of where you are,” said general manager Jessica Barzykowski.

Say, troutling tempura, raw venison, grilled escarole and beef tenderloin capped off with rum baba with confit citrus, with ingredients sourced from the hotel’s land, and farms within walking distance.

Encompassing some 600 private acres with more than five miles of trails, walk down the aisle in a forest clearing, followed by cocktails overlooking the valley. The night ends with a bonfire under the sky.

“For the weekend, it really feels like the whole place is yours,” said Barzykowski.

Maximum capacity: 110 guests. Site fee from $7,000 and catering from $325 per person

AutoCamp Catskills

To wow with something novel, throw your wedding at AutoCamp Catskills in Saugerties, where guests can stay in custom Airstream trailer suites (outfitted with a full bath, fear not).

Allow us to paint the picture: Exchange vows in the natural wooded amphitheater, outfitted with string lights, before moseying over to the Woodstock, a secluded event space, reached by a tree-lined path and adjacent to a woodland pond.

Or, seal the deal on the Saugerties Lawn and host a smaller reception in the Hudson Room, which accommodates up to 70 guests, inside the midcentury modern Clubhouse. This has floor-to-ceiling windows and retractable doors opening onto the patio. On-site activities include yoga, seasonal wood-fired sauna sessions and daily happy hours at the Clubhouse.

Personalize your celebration with touches like “an elevated s’mores bar featuring locally made Hudson Valley Marshmallow Company” suggested Bryan Terzi, chief commercial officer of AutoCamp, noting that one couple getting married in 2027 is planning to set up stations throughout the property that have been inspired by their relationship and travels together, “inviting guests to ‘fill their passports’ as they explore each stop.”

Maximum capacity: 200 guests. From $6,000 for 200 guests, F&B not included
