Cher responds to Michael Douglas’ claim Glenn Close deserved her Oscar for ‘Moonstruck’

Cher isn’t holding a grudge against Michael Douglas after the actor suggested Glenn Close deserved her 1988 best actress Oscar.

“Cher adores Michael Douglas,” a representative for Cher, 80, told Page Six after Douglas said his “Fatal Attraction” co-star should have taken home the trophy instead.

Douglas, 82, made the remarks during an appearance on “The Graham Norton Show” on Friday, where he sat alongside Close, Kieran Culkin and Naomi Ackie.

The conversation turned to Close’s long history of Oscar disappointments after the actress joked that she was finally receiving an honorary Academy Award at the Governors Awards in November because members “probably don’t want to feel guilty anymore.”

The “101 Dalmatians” actress, 79, has received eight competitive Oscar nominations but has yet to take home an award.

Douglas, who starred opposite Close in the 1987 thriller “Fatal Attraction,” quickly weighed in on one particular loss.

“She should have won with ‘Fatal Attraction,’” he said, referring to Close’s performance as Alex Forrest.

He pointed out that Close received her fourth Oscar nomination for the film, while Cher took home the best actress trophy for “Moonstruck.”

“Oh, wow,” host Graham Norton responded.

“I know. That’s what we all said,” the “Basic Instinct” actor quipped, prompting laughter from the panel and audience.

“The shade! The shade, mate!” Ackie joked.

Douglas went on to describe Close’s work in “Fatal Attraction” as one of “the greatest performances of all time.”

Norton offered his own take on Cher’s Oscar victory, joking, “But Cher put some grey in her hair, so there you go.”

Cher beat Close, Holly Hunter (“Broadcast News”), Sally Kirkland (“Anna”) and Meryl Streep (“Ironweed”) for the 1988 best actress award.

In “Moonstruck,” Cher played Loretta Castorini, a Brooklyn widow who falls for Ronny, the younger brother of the man she has agreed to marry.

Nicolas Cage played Ronny, while Danny Aiello portrayed Johnny, Loretta’s fiancé.

“Fatal Attraction,” meanwhile, earned six Oscar nominations, including best picture, best director and best actress, but failed to win a competitive award.

Cher had previously earned a best supporting actress nomination for “Silkwood” in 1983.

Douglas also had reason to celebrate at the 1988 ceremony, winning best actor for his role as Gordon Gekko in “Wall Street.”

Close is finally set to receive an honorary Oscar at the Governors Awards in November.
