The Dupont twins — one-time Andy Warhol favorites and former employees of Martha Stewart — want everyone to back off the domestic diva over her tone-deaf homeless Halloween costume.
Richard Dupont, who worked with Stewart in the 1970s at her first catering company, told Page Six Stewart has always cared for the less fortunate.
“I remember going quite often with her, catering events in the city, and she’d always drop off leftover food [to the homeless] — always! I remember that about her and I always liked that … We all followed her lead,” Richard told us.

“Martha is a wonderful person. She’s always been good to me and it’s my duty to stand up for her because she did feed the homless back then and she did care about the people, who were homeless,” he said.
Richard’s brother, Robert, took to Instagram to defend Stewart and declare, “I know firsthand that Martha has spent years quietly and consistently showing deep empathy for the unhoused community in New York City for a longtime, after ever[sic] single catering event we did, she made it a strict point to pack up all the extra, high quality food.”
The brothers said they often distributed the meals to the Bowery in downtown Manhattan. They added that while the costume was shocking, “Martha meant no harm,” Richard said.

Stewart sparked outrage when she shared — and quickly deleted — a snap of her Halloween costume with her depicting a homeless person holding a sign that read: “I AM HUNGRY HELP ME!!”
It didn’t help that the Stewart’s tone-deaf post also promoted her “perfect for Halloween” QVC candles. She deleted it after the backlash and initially tried to clear it all up by claiming her costume “was intended to bring more awareness to the very serious subject of homelessness.”
She owned up to her her screw up hours later, saying, “it’s hard to admit when you’ve really screwed up.”
“My earlier statement didn’t go far enough. I know many people are suffering economically. Wearing a costume like I did was insensitive and not funny. I am very sorry,” she said.
