The Best Movies and TV Shows Coming to HBO Max, Hulu, Apple TV and More in November

New to Amazon Prime Video

‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Season 3 Starts streaming: Nov. 11

The “Lord of the Rings” prequel series, “The Rings of Power,” returns for a third season of fantasy quests and visually impressive battles featuring J.R.R. Tolkien’s colorful characters and set in mountains, islands, caves and volcanoes. As Season 3 begins, the dark lord Sauron (Charlie Vickers) has been sending orc armies out to fight the humans and the elves for control of Middle-earth, while other powerful factions remain on the sidelines, waiting to see how the struggle will play out. The elves Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo) are roaming far and wide to find allies in kingdoms caught up in their own civil wars. Meanwhile, Sauron is trying to learn the secret to forging an all-powerful ring that could render the political maneuvering moot.

‘Blade Runner 2099’ Starts streaming: Nov. 25

This sequel series to the “Blade Runner” movies is set 80 years after the first one, from 1982, but depicts the same kind of technologically advanced future world, where beneath the glittering surfaces lies some deep rot. The biggest change in “Blade Runner 2099” is that the power dynamic between humankind and their android creations has flipped. Now society is tightly controlled by the humanoid replicants, some of whom are seeking the next stage of evolution for their kind. Michelle Yeoh plays one of those restless replicants, Olwen, who is days away from the end of her life span. Hunter Schafer plays Cora, a human passing as a machine, who is partnered with Olwen on a mission to investigate rogue replicants.

‘12 12 12’ Season 1 Starts streaming: Nov. 13

The title of this heist thriller refers to its three interconnected stories. One involves the 12 months it takes for Paul Galvin (Jamie Dornan) and his brother Bobby (Jack Kesy) to plan an elaborate bank robbery in Zurich. The second story involves the 12 hours it takes to pull off the job. And the third follows the F.B.I. agent Jack Strickland (Anthony Mackie), who has 12 days to catch the Galvins before the trail goes cold. These plots unfold incrementally in each “12 12 12” episode as the show’s creators, Dudi Appleton and Jim Keeble, gradually reveal surprising connections between the criminals, the cops and their sidekicks — none of whom are exactly as they appear.

For his latest project, “Wolves Up Close,” Gregory and his team follow a wolf pack as the animals track a bull moose. The film captures the harshness of the Canadian Arctic winter, showing how the people and creatures who live in the far north survive in a harsh climate that is becoming increasingly unstable.

‘The Gilded Age’ Season 4 Starts streaming: Nov. 1

For three seasons now, the “Gilded Age” showrunners Julian Fellowes and Sonja Warfield have been capturing that moment in American history when the robber barons and the labor unions were at odds, and when the new money battled with the old money to determine whether the United States was just going to be a cultural copy of Europe. The series’s appeal isn’t just in the historical drama but in the fabulous dresses and hats, worn by Broadway stars who seem to be having a wonderful time chewing all the elegant scenery. Season 4 will continue the show’s exploration of 1880s New York City, a home for sociopolitical intrigue and scandalous romance, set against the backdrop of a nation racing headlong — and often heedlessly — into the 20th century.

‘The Remarried Empress’ Season 1 Starts streaming: Nov. 4

Based on a popular South Korean web novel, this fantasy romance concerns a royal couple whose deteriorating marriage becomes a saga that captivates — and could potentially damage — their kingdom. Shin Min-a plays Empress Navier, whose struggles with conceiving have her husband, Emperor Sovieshu (Ju Ji-hoon), eyeing Rashta (Lee Se-young), a refugee he helped rescue from enslavement. When Sovieshu asks Navier for a divorce, she agrees, provided that she, too, can remarry with the Crown Prince Heinrey (Lee Jong-suk), the emperor’s handsome rival. In addition to the political infighting and the steamy love affairs, “The Remarried Empress” sprinkles in supernatural elements like magic spells and enchanted animals, giving the story the quality of a young-adult fairy tale.

‘New Wave’ Starts streaming: Nov. 23

Almost as soon as punk rock began exploding across the United States and Britain in the mid-1970s, the music quickly evolved as some creative musicians took the style’s D.I.Y. sensibility and merged it with their own artistic ambitions. The resulting genre is often called new wave, although the people associated with it had a wide range of approaches, encompassing dance music, experimental music, catchy pop and gender-bending theatricality. The four-part docu-series “New Wave” covers the heyday of this diverse movement — from roughly 1977 to 1987 — and features interviews with Billy Idol, Bob Geldof, Danny Elfman, Johnny Marr, Mark Mothersbaugh, Stewart Copeland and Thomas Dolby, among others.

Also arriving:

Nov. 22 “Secret Service” Season 1

‘Yellowjackets’ Season 4 Starts streaming: Nov. 20

The mystery-thriller series “Yellowjackets” debuted in 2021 and quickly found an audience for its intriguing premise, in which a group of middle-age women find themselves still coping with what happened to them 25 years earlier, when they survived a plane crash that left them stranded in the wilderness. The show’s fourth and final season will wrap up the story by finally connecting the dots between the bizarre adventures these characters had as teenagers — when isolation and deprivation led to some very strange and violent behavior — and how that trauma has affected their adult relationships and careers.

Also arriving:

Nov. 5 “Big John’s Bosh! Family” Season 1

‘The Good Daughter’ Starts streaming: Nov. 12

The crime writer Karin Slaughter adapts her novel for this twisty mystery mini-series about two sisters who witnessed an unimaginable tragedy in their home when they were young, and who are still dealing with the repercussions decades later. Meghann Fahy plays one of the sisters, Charlotte Quinn, a lawyer in the small Georgia town where she grew up and where her father Rusty (Brendan Gleeson), a criminal defense attorney, has made a lot of enemies. When Charlotte witnesses another shocking violent crime — a school shooting — and finds that her account of the incident differs from the one given by the corrupt local police, her sister Samantha (Rose Byrne) reluctantly comes home to help her estranged family deal with another crisis. Slaughter (who wrote all six episodes of “The Good Daughter”) and Steph Green (who directed all six) pepper the sisters’ story with flashbacks, as the pair gradually learns more about the secrets of their shared past.

‘Dig’ Season 1 Starts streaming: Nov. 23

The “Parks and Recreation” co-creator Michael Schur and that sitcom’s star Amy Poehler reunite for “Dig,” a comedy series based on the Kate Myers novel “Excavations.” Poehler plays Elise, a skilled archaeologist who has spent years toiling in the shadow of Neville (Hugh Laurie), a celebrity professor who keeps breaking his promise to retire. When Elise and three of her colleagues — Dylan (Geraldine Viswanathan), Clare (Antonia Thomas) and Patty (Fina Strazza) — find something astonishing at one of their Greek dig sites, they try to keep the discovery a secret, which draws them all into a complicated mystery. Created with J.J. Philbin (a writer on “New Girl” and “Only Murders in the Building”), “Dig” combines Schur’s usual humanist humor with elements of suspense.

Also arriving:

Nov. 1 “O.J.’s Accomplice”

Nov. 3 “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins” Season 2 “St. Denis Medical” Season 3
