Three patients have gone through a nightmare ordeal after allegedly being doused in accelerant inside Sydney’s Prince of Wales Hospital, with a 48-year-old patient now facing attempted murder charges.
Emergency services were called about 10.45pm on Tuesday, October 13, following a concern for welfare.
One patient, 54-year-old Radovan Banic, was actually set on fire by the alleged perpetrator.
Speaking from hospital, he described smelling gasoline moments before he was burned.
“I smelt it, but it was too late. He already lit me up,” Banic, who had been admitted to the Randwick hospital for spinal treatment, told Nine News.

“I could just smell petrol all over my hair.”
Police allege the accused poured accelerant over Banic, another man aged 63 and a 64-year-old woman before setting the 54-year-old alight.
Hospital staff extinguished the fire, according to the police account.
The alleged attack occurred in the spinal unit and involved gasoline concealed in a drink bottle.
Banic sustained minor burns and remained in a stable condition under observation as a precaution, the ABC reported.
