A political analyst spotted one issue that could crush the Democrats if they retake control of Congress after the midterms.
Some Democrats have stated publicly that they plan to impeach President Donald Trump, and possibly other cabinet members, on the first day that they retake power in the House of Representatives. That prospect becomes much riskier for Trump if Democrats also retake control of the Senate, which political forecasters see as unlikely.
Scott MacFarlane of MeidasTouch Network pointed out on MS NOW on Monday that the Democrats’ impeachment plans may also include Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Articles of impeachment have already been filed against Hegseth in the House for the department’s boat strikes, Hegseth’s handling of classified information, and other offenses.
However, MacFarlane cautioned that Democrats’ pursuit of someone like Hegseth, whom some political analysts see as low-hanging fruit for impeachment, could be a costly gamble.
“They are emphatically stating that they would move to impeach Pete Hegseth if they get the majority. They don’t say that about the president,” MacFarlane said. “That may be a landmine politically. They don’t view Hegseth as a landmine politically.”
MacFarlane said he spoke with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), who said: “This is a conversation the caucus needs to have.”
