Michael Douglas now proudly in his ‘lazy era’ — what’s next besides acting

Michael Douglas is living the retired life.

The 82-year-old actor acknowledged he’s in his lazy era in an interview with Page Six, telling us his main priorities now have nothing to do with work.

“Yeah, I’m trying to improve my golf game, travel everywhere I haven’t been before,” he explained.

“Basically, my values have changed from career being probably the most important thing to my family and community.”

The “Basic Instinct” actor’s new life plans come after he recently released his new memoir, “One Helluva Ride,” in which he looks back at his colorful personal life and legendary career.

Remembering his time as a struggling actor in New York City, he told us about when he shared a tiny Upper West Side apartment with Danny DeVito.

“It was a one-bedroom; [so] he had to open up the couch in the living room,” Douglas told us of the “Matilda” actor.

However, DeVito was already dating Rhea Perlman at the time, so he wasn’t in the apartment that often.

In his book, he also candidly discusses his past struggles with cocaine, which led him to go to rehab in September 1992. His eldest son, 47-year-old Cameron, has also dealt with addiction issues, which resulted in a seven-year prison sentence.

Douglas told us that cocaine use was “running rampant” in his heyday, adding, “Almost every show you did, the prop man was the guy to go to.”

As for why he chose to be so open about his drug use in his book, he said he wanted to share his experience now that he’s older and wiser.

“Having a little age behind me and looking back at it and realizing it was a really ridiculous drug and consumed a lot of people, my son included and a lot of others,” he reflected. “My little beware tale in terms of my experiences.”

Douglas also told Page Six his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, is in the middle of reading his memoir — which could get awkward given he rehashes his past romances and secret affairs for the tell-all book.

But the “Wall Street” star has no regrets.

“I’m happy I got it out there,” he explained, adding of his wife, “We’re in our 26th year [married] and I enjoy her company very much. She’s so talented and funny.”
