Trump hit with ‘most embarrassing hack’ of the year: ‘We have no team to handle this’

A phone company launched by President Donald Trump’s sons was hacked, and the hackers say they released customer data because the company told them it had “no team to handle this.”

A new criminal group called BYOD posted the records of 3,615 Trump Mobile customers on its dark web leak site last week, Straight Arrow News reported Monday.

The files include names, email addresses, phone numbers, home addresses, and order details, the outlet reported. The list included a Trump adviser, Trump executives, and even a Republican lawmaker.

Conspicuously missing was any member of the president’s family.

“Trump Mobile was informed they had been breached; they then replied with ‘We have no team to handle this’ and that anyone who hacks them is a terrorist,” the group wrote in a statement posted with the data, according to Straight Arrow.

“Well unfortunately for them, all 3615 customers and their PII [personal information], alongside telecom details are now up for grabs,” the group added.

Trump Mobile did not immediately respond to an email from Straight Arrow seeking comment.

“This might be the most embarrassing HACK of 2026!” crypto influencer Carl Runefelt wrote on X. “The President’s name is on a phone company that can’t protect 3,615 people.”

A BYOD representative told Straight Arrow that the group got in by infecting an employee of Liberty Mobile, a Florida-based company, with malware.

Liberty Mobile provides the network service behind Trump Mobile, according to Cybernews. The outlet’s researchers said samples of the leaked data appeared to be legitimate and were not tied to earlier breaches.

T1 Mobile owns Trump Mobile and licenses the Trump name from the president’s family business, the Trump Organization.

Straight Arrow reported that among those exposed is Eric Brunnett, the Trump Organization’s vice president and chief information officer. His LinkedIn profile says he oversees “all Information Technology and Information Security for all aspects of the Trump Organization.”

Brunnett told Hospitality Upgrade last year that the company faced an “unimaginable number of bad actors trying to infiltrate our network every day,” Cybernews reported.

“We have to maintain a security posture that doesn’t allow breaches of any kind,” Brunnett added, according to Cybernews.

Nicholas Hayes, a Florida-based lawyer for the Trump Organization, is also listed in the data, Straight Arrow reported. Hayes told the outlet by phone that he had used Trump Mobile but no longer does.

International Cyber Digest, a cybersecurity news account, said on X that it examined the leaked data and found other people close to the president. They include Trump adviser Jason Miller, Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA), EchoStar cofounder Charlie Ergen, singer Larry Gatlin and pro-Trump influencer Bo Loudon, the account said.

No member of the Trump family appears in the data, according to Straight Arrow’s review.

One customer told Straight Arrow he paid a $100 deposit last year for the company’s T1 smartphone but never received the phone. Several other people listed in the data confirmed their information was accurate but denied being customers, the outlet reported.

In May, a flaw in Trump Mobile’s T1 pre-order system exposed the names, addresses, and order details of about 30,000 people, Cybernews reported.

BYOD also claims it still has access to Trump Mobile’s internal dashboard and gave Straight Arrow a screenshot showing a customer’s personal data.

“Trump Mobile is going to revolutionize cell phones,” the president’s son, Eric, said when launching the company for his family last year. Since then, Trump Mobile has missed deadline after deadline for releasing its flagship product, while prices have quietly crept upward as its feature list shrunk.
