JD Vance catches heat after his favorite pseudointellectual praises Hitler again

A right-wing influencer praised by Vice President JD Vance got called out for praising Adolf Hitler – and it’s not the first time.

The vice president has openly acknowledged neo-reactionary political theorist Curtis Yarvin as an influence on his thinking, and his early political champion Peter Thiel and other Silicon Valley elites have circulated the blogger’s radical commentary on democracy as a failed experiment and criticism of the modern administrative state.

Yarvin, who previously blogged under the nom de plume “Mencious Moldbug,” has questioned the mainstream historical consensus on World War II history and described Hitler’s military actions as self-defense, and he has repeatedly praised the Nazi dictator’s leadership.

“Germany got Hitler because there were too many subjects about which only Hitler spoke the truth,” Yarvin posted Dec 31, 2025. “This made a lot of Germans regard Hitler as an infallible genius. Hitler was a genius — all serious historians agree. He was not infallible.”

Yarvin kicked off a firestorm of criticism Monday by suggesting a Hitler-like leader was necessary to fix immigration problems in the United Kingdom.

“Every time I’m in the UK I hear this. More and more people asking, subtly or straight out: what would Hitler do?” Yarvin posted on X. “As if it was that easy. Have you looked around you? Man, Hitler wouldn’t even know where to start.”

Some of the fury against Yarvin’s remarks was aimed at Vance.

“Curtis Yarvin, a major influence on Vice President JD Vance, is openly fantasizing about Hitler again,” warned counterterrorism expert Tom Joscelyn. “Extremism isn’t fringe on the right.”

“Isn’t this guy our Vice President’s favorite public intellectual?” noted progressive activist Will Stancil. “I mean, I understand this isn’t Hasan Piker-level antisemitism, but ‘I openly endorse the views of the guy openly endorsing Hitler’ seems like it merits, I dunno, a newspaper story or something.”

“Reminder that Vice President JD Vance has said that he considers Curtis Yarvin a friend,” recalled journalist Tristan Lee.

“Congrats again to the New York Times on its long form journalism,” snarked political scientist Mark Copelovitch, noting the newspaper’s widely criticized interview with Yarvin.

“It’s weird but I was in London thus summer and did not hear a single person ask: what would Hitler do?” shared policy professor Don Moynihan. “Maybe the company Yarvin keeps might explain why he keeps running into the Hitler-curious … Anyway, I’m sure JD Vance will be asked relentlessly about his support for Curtis Yarvin!”

“This man is known as Peter Thiel’s ‘brain,’ and he’s a favorite advisor to JD Vance,” pointed out journalist and attorney Scott Horton. “For him, Adolf Hitler is a vital point of reference.”

“JD Vance — the one who characterized the pre-MAGA U.S. as a hotbed of iinstitutionalized anti-white, anti-male discrimination’? Considering Yarvin a friend? Shiver me timbers, I’m shocked,” wisecracked Democratic operative Greg Greene.
