A GOP ad featuring Angela Paxton, who filed for divorce from the Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton last year on “biblical grounds,” was laughed off on MS NOW on Monday morning for being a massive misstep.
In the ad, the Texas lawmaker avoids mentioning her husband’s name, but mentions the “elephant on the room,” before warning, “Either we hold every Republican seat, or we hand the future of Texas to the other team.”
After the ad was shared on MS NOW, and members of the panel smirked, contributor Jason Johnson could barely contain his amusement.
“Just explain to me, Dr. Jason Johnson, who does that ad actually work with?” host Alicia Menendez asked.
“It doesn’t work with anybody because your first reaction was like, ‘what team are you talking about?’” he laughed. “Who are you talking about? What? Everyone knows what she’s referring to, to use the tech-savvy term like she’s subtweeting, because I still say tweeting, she is subtweeting her ex-husband, right? Who everybody knows is corrupt.”
“This is actually a worse ad than if she had just said nothing, I personally think, and I was actually discussing this with some friends of mine in Texas,” she recalled. “This would have worked better with a humorous ending if she said we got to vote for the same team, even him, and people would have gotten that joke.”
“That would have been her saying, ‘Hey, look, I don’t necessarily like the guy either, but we’ve got to keep the Republican Party whole,” he suggested. “But by pretending that she’s not going to talk about the gigantic elephant in the room and not the Republican Party, but her relationship with her corrupt and cheating husband- she’s actually made the situation worse.”
