A former GOP operative turned never-Trump activist Steve Schmidt has spotted a path to “break MAGA for all time,” according to a new episode of his podcast, “The Warning.”
President Donald Trump’sMAGA coalition has seemingly withstood shifting political winds because of the movement’s devotion to Trump himself. However, several concurrent issues have seemingly exposed cracks within MAGA itself. For instance, Trump’s decision to launch a war against Iran has caused MAGA figureheads like former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to sharply rebuke the president. Trump’s insistence that the rising cost of living is a “Democratic hoax” has also not assuaged voters the way Trump hoped.
Schmidt argued that these issues could come to a head in November.
“In less than a month, MAGA will be repudiated,” Schmidt said, referring to the upcoming midterm elections. “In less than a month, the American people, north to south, east to west, will repudiate this and break MAGA for all time. It will never, ever exist again as a coalition capable of winning a national election.”
Even if MAGA is rebuked, Schmidt warned that the coalition is big enough to potentially disrupt future elections.
“It is a faction large enough to destroy the country, and that is the proposition that Donald Trump has placed on the table,” he said. ” If you vote for me, I will crush the other side. I will end dissent. I will eliminate freedom. And if we lose, then it’s evidence the election was stolen.”
The pathway to defeating this threat is to vote the Trump supporters out of office, Schmidt said.
“That seems to be the closing message: Trump or else,” Schmidt said. “I have a better idea. Let’s make the election a choice between America or Trump. And let’s remember that, in order for us to live in the land of the free, from time to time, we must remember that we are the home of the brave.”
