President Donald Trump admitted to a habit during his rally in Ohio Saturday that one journalist argued was putting both his own life and the “lives of his supporters at risk.”
“I love Bayer aspirin, I take an aspirin a day. I don’t know if it works, but psychologically I need it. It thins the hell out of your blood, I guess,” Trump said at his rally at Butler High School in Vandalia.
“I don’t know if it works or not, but I’ve been doing it for a long time, and here I am, making speeches! Bayer… and I like Bayer aspirin, the little yellow… and I take the big one. You know, they want me to go down to the 80 — I take the 386, I don’t know what the hell it is, it’s a monster.”
Trump has previously spoken about taking aspirin daily, admitting to taking larger doses than his doctors recommended because he wanted “nice, thin blood pouring through my heart.” Health experts “typically do not recommend” taking daily doses of high-dose aspirin for prolonged periods.
Trump’s admission, argued journalist and lawyer John Aravosis, could be dangerous to both the president and his followers.
“He’s an idiot. Putting his life at risk. And now putting the lives of his supporters at risk. Oh well,” Aravosis wrote Saturday night in a social media post on X.
Trump continued to sing the praises of Bayer aspirin, admitting again that he took a higher dose than doctors recommended.
“They said, ‘Sir, you don’t need that!’ I said, ‘Do me a favor, I’ve been doing OK for 35 years, leave me alone.’ I’ll switch to the little tiny one, you know, tiny! It doesn’t look right. I’ll switch to that little tiny thing and then something bad will happen,” Trump said.
“No, I keep taking the big one. They say, ‘Sir, you don’t need that!’ ‘Thank you, doctor, I appreciate it’ — then I order a whole brand new stack of big ones. One of the few things I take is a Bayer aspirin, can you believe it?”
Rather than scrutinize the president’s comments, prominent liberal influencer and podcaster Joanne Carducci actually endorsed Trump’s disregard for his doctors’ advice.
“I’m very much in favor of him not listening to his doctors!” Carducci wrote to her more than 1 million followers on X.
