(NEXSTAR) — Nobody won the Mega Millions jackpot during Tuesday’s drawing, but more than 606,000 tickets won at least $5.
With no ticket matching the six numbers drawn — 11, 14, 17, 50, and 57, plus the gold Mega Ball 6 — the jackpot has grown to an estimated $843 million, with a cash value of $391.7 million. It has now surpassed a Mega Millions jackpot won in 2024 to become the eighth-largest in game history:
- $1.602 billion: Aug. 8, 2023; Florida
- $1.537 billion: Oct. 23, 2018; South Carolina
- $1.348 billion: Jan. 13, 2023; Maine
- $1.337 billion: July 29, 2022; Illinois
- $1.269 billion: Dec. 27, 2024; California
- $1.128 billion: March 26, 2024; New Jersey
- $1.050 billion: Jan. 22, 2021; Michigan
- Est. $843 million: Current
- $810 million: Sept. 10, 2024; Texas
- $656 million: Mar. 30, 2012; Illinois, Kansas, and Maryland
The jackpot has also overtaken a $842.4 million Powerball jackpot won in Michigan last year to become the 14th-largest across both national lottery games.
Should the jackpot be won in the next four weeks, it would mark the first November grand prize since 2016, according to Mega Millions officials. It would also easily be the largest ever won in the month, with the current record holder being a $324 million prize won in New York in 2014.
The next drawing, set for 11 p.m. ET on Friday, will mark the 38th drawing since the last Mega Millions jackpot was won in Virginia in June. Game officials say this is the longest streak without a jackpot winner since the game began in 2002.
Since that June victory, players have won more than $274 million thanks to the non-jackpot prizes that were overhauled earlier this year. In Tuesday’s drawing alone, over 606,000 tickets won more than $12.2 million via lower-tier prizes.
Twelve of those winning tickets matched four of the white ball numbers and the Mega Ball for the third-tier prize. For the five tickets with a random multiplier of 2X — two in Texas and one each in Colorado, New Jersey, and Wyoming — the payout is $20,000. Two tickets, one each in Michigan and Virginia, had a multiplier of 3X, making them worth $30,000. Five additional tickets, sold in Arkansas, California, Florida, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania, had a 4X multiplier for a $40,000 prize (though the California ticketholder’s prize may be larger.
No tickets were able to match all five of the white numbers drawn, game officials reported. The prize value at that tier ranges from $2 million to $10 million, depending on the random multiplier.
If you can overcome the odds (which did improve when Mega Millions was overhauled earlier this year) and win the jackpot, experts recommend getting your affairs in order before coming forward to collect the prize.
That will include deciding between the smaller cash option or the annuitized payout of a one-time payment, followed by 29 annual checks that increase by 5% each year. Which is better for you may vary.
The next Mega Millions drawing is set for 11 p.m. ET on Tuesday, followed by a drawing on Friday at the same time. Tickets are $5 each and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
