News anchor Chris Cuomo covered his brother’s crushing mayoral election loss live on air — humiliatingly forced to admit that his bro is not what voters “want.”
The former star CNN host had largely avoided covering the failed campaign by his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo — but was behind the desk at NewsNation when the race was called for socialist Zohran Mamdani.

“Of course I wanted my brother to win,” the anchor said.
“I believe in my brother. I think he’s a tremendous operator within government. But he’s not what Democrats want right now in their party,” he told viewers.

“And Democrats win in New York City… I mean, that’s the one-line analysis is, the Democrat was gonna win in New York City,” he said of the party that failed to pick his brother, by far the most experienced candidate who ran.

“But the type of Democrat and what they want, I do believe, there’s a metaphor here as a reaction to MAGA, and this is what we’ll see in the midterms,” he added.
At the time, Mamdani held a commanding 52% to 40% lead over Cuomo with just 35% of the vote in.
The new mayor-elect would ultimately cross the finish line with 50.4 % to Cuomo’s 41,6%, followed by Republican Curtis Sliwa at 7.1%.
