A woman who used a samurai-style sword to murder her wife and brutally attack her mother-in-law in Los Angeles County last year has been sentenced to 35 years to life in prison.

The grisly murder on July 18, 2024, played out inside a residence on the 300 block of South Huntington Avenue in San Dimas.

Responding deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene at around 3:30 p.m. to find the victim’s mother, Hsi Wei Huang, waving them down as she walked the street, blood visible on her right leg and hands, carrying a katana sword.

She immediately laid down the sword and raised her hands when ordered to do so by deputies and later led them to the scene of the gruesome murder.

L.A. County Deputy Dist. Att. Brittany Saleeby told jurors that Huang’s daughter, 47-year-old Chen Chen Fei and her wife, 45-year-old Weichien Huang, were arguing about divorce when Weichien grabbed the katana and fatally stabbed Fei 13 times.

Fei’s mother hurried to the room and found her daughter on the floor covered in blood, the Los Angeles Times reported.

She then defended herself as Weichien swung the sword at her several times, ultimately managing to grab the blade and run out of the home. She was seriously wounded in the process.

Deputies entered the couple’s house and found Fei deceased and Weichien lying on a bed next to a bottle of medication. Saleeby said the 45-year-old had tried to take her own life.

The jury convicted Weichien for the murder of her wife and the attempted murder of her mother-in-law on Oct. 28.

At her Nov. 3 sentencing, the victim’s mother called into the Pomona courtroom from Tawain and spoke through a Mandarin interpreter, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported.

Hsi Wei Huang told the court she didn’t understand what kind of hate would lead Weichien to kill her daughter like that and that the 45-year-old shows no regret.

“She was using the sword trying to suck as much blood from people like a vampire,” she said. “She was enjoying [seeing] the blood coming out. There was no regret at all, acting like a vampire.”
