Donald Trump announced the completion of his latest makeover project at the White House: A marbled and gold Lincoln bathroom.
Trump posted on Truth Social, “It was renovated in the 1940s in an art deco green tile style, which was totally inappropriate for the Lincoln Era. I did it in black and white polished Statuary marble. This was very appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln and, in fact, could be the marble that was originally there!”
Trump seems pleased enough by the makeover: He posted two dozen photos of the new bathroom, done in the black and white marble that made a resurgence in homes around 2010. The photos also show a bathroom chandelier, a bathtub and shower, as well as a bathrobe with the presidential seal.
Trump also posted a before and after photo.

The White House did have indoor plumbing during the Lincoln era, but the Lincoln Bedroom, adjacent to the bathroom, actually housed the offices of the 12th president. The interior of the Executive Mansion was gutted and renovated in the late 1940s when Harry Truman was president.
One of the photos that Trump shared shows the East Wing being dismantled. Last week, bulldozers tore down the entire East Wing and East Colonnade, including the White House movie theater, to make way for Trump’s plans for a 90,000-square-foot, $300 million ballroom. Preservationists and architecture groups described the unilateral decision by Trump to demolish such a large chunk of the White House footprint with no consultation with Congress.
