Cameras have started rolling on Andrew Haigh’s latest feature, A Long Winter, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Caitriona Balfe have been added to the cast.

The film is currently shooting in Alberta, Canada. Written by Haigh, the script is an adaptation of Colm Tóibín’s short story of the same name. The film is set high in the mountains as fall comes to an end and a family prepares for the long winter ahead.

The film also stars Fred Hechinger (Thelma), Kit Connor (Warfare), and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Warfare). Further casting includes Manuel Garcia Rulfo (Jurassic World: Rebirth) and David Furr (The Gilded Age).

We previously announced that Hechinger, Connor, and Woon-A-Tai were circling the project.

The film is produced by Tristan Goligher for The Bureau, Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev for Calgary-based Nomadic Pictures, and Michael Elliott. Mubi will retain rights in the US, UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, Benelux, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, and India. The Match Factory is handling worldwide sales.

The film was developed by Mubi, which also co-financed the project with Film4. Farhana Bhula, Director of Film4, and Max Park, Development & Production Executive, are overseeing the project for Film4.

Andre Turpin (Mommy) is the Cinematographer. Production design is by Emmanuel Frechette (Wayward), and Jonathan Alberts (All Of Us Strangers) is the Editor.
