(WAVY) – DoorDash announced it is launching a nationwide emergency food response as the federal government shutdown is impacting food aid.

The company plans on delivering the equivalent of 1 million free meals through food banks. It is also waiving delivery and service fees on grocery orders for customers who have previously verified their SNAP status.

The government shutdown is expected to impact the SNAP benefits of more than 40 million Americans. As benefits dry up, food banks are bracing for overwhelming demand.

Food bank donations through DoorDash

DoorDash runs Project DASH, which helps deliver food bank donation to those who need them. In November, Project DASH plans to waive fees for partners it works with and make deliveries for more than 300 food banks, food pantries and charity organizations.

Those hoping to get food bank donations delivered to them won’t be able to place an order on the app. Instead, it’s the food bank partners who will coordinate deliveries with DoorDash drivers, as they have been doing before the government shutdown, a company spokesperson said.

You can find more information about food banks and pantries in your area here.

How to get grocery delivery fees waived

Participating grocery partners will also cover the delivery and service fees for SNAP recipient orders in November. This benefit is for customers who have linked a SNAP/EBT card to their DoorDash profile.

They can shop on DoorDash at Sprouts, Dollar General, Schnucks, Ahold Delhaize brands, Hy-Vee, Giant Eagle, and Wegmans and have their delivery and service fees waived on one order.

This offer is currently available from Nov. 1, 2025, through Nov. 30, 2025. (Click here for full terms and conditions.)

The offer is only valid for customers who already have a linked SNAP/EBT card on their account, but any payment method can be used if the EBT card has been drained.
