Wendy Noss is departing as president of the Motion Picture Association-Canada after 15 years.

Charles Rivkin, chairman and CEO of MPA, wrote in a memo to employees that Noss “has decided to start a new chapter in her life and will departing the MPA in the coming months.” He wrote that she had offered to assist the MPA in finding a successor, and will remain in her role until then.

Rivkin called Noss “a trusted adviser and a steadfast advocate — someone whose wise judgment, unwavering professionalism, and deep understanding of our studios’ business priorities have defined her work every day.”

He cited the protection of production incentive programs across Canada, as well as copyright laws in the country and promotion of market access. An insider familiar with MPA operations called her departure a “tremendous loss.” “She’s also linchpin for the industry in Canada, so they’re fortunate she’s staying on to help find her own replacement, because it won’t be easy,” the insider said.

Noss also is a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian American Business Council.

Noss has been with the MPA since 2006, and previously acted as counsel and director of government affairs for the national copyright collective, representing authors and publishers.
